It’s Valentine’s Day, one of the most overwrought, commercially driven “holidays” on record. Based on a religiously significant event of the martyred death of Valentine – a saint no one knows much about, it’s a second tier holiday that has been elevated to line the pockets of greeting card, jewelry and crappy candy companies. For self-flagellators who want to feel terrible about themselves, this is the holiday for you.
As sickeningly sweet as this holiday, I give you the above playlist. Entitled “Postpunk Love,” it leans more towards the New Wave edge and may make you stabby by the time you hit the final track, which is U2’s “With or Without You.” I can’t think of a better way to make you hate yourself more than listen to this playlist on day that you are told that you are nothing if not something.
Contrary to what you think, I love you.
