Headless Lizzy & Her Icebox Pussy

I’m a sucker for pretty much anything Death Rock to Glitter Goth. It’s what I refer to as being a recovering Goth – 25 years in the making. You can wash away a girl’s black eyeliner but, you can’t take the dark, glittery soul away from her. So, when a band called Headless Lizzy & Her Icebox Pussy sends me email asking me to listen to their tracks, I take notice.

Based in Oakland CA, Headless Lizzy & H.I.P. combines experimental, industrial, metal and electronics into a melange that is both dark, chaotic, and at times, anthemic, like a modern day Death Rock battle cry. Themes woven throughout the tracks are inspired by the obscure, the surreal, psychedelia and the occult. Fasten your seatbelts, Headless Lizzy is going to take you for a ride that you won’t forget.

The band’s second release, Criminalien Manipulature, was released earlier in 2015. Gleaning inspiration from bands such as Foetus, Skinny Puppy, Alien Sex Fiend and Ministry, the tracks range from dance beats to heavy grinding dirges. Never knowing what to expect from the next track, it is without question, an exhilarating listen.  From this release, Strawberry Tongue would like to introduce the track “Death Coach” to the playlist. H.L. & H.I.P. describe this track as being about “two revolutionaries, their friendship, and the pangs of dementia that one of them endures whilst hiding underground.” This track evokes images of Thrill Kill Kult, 45 Grave, and Christian Death jamming in an opium den. If that doesn’t make you want to listen to it, you are dead inside. And not in a good way.
