Icky Blossoms are a band based out of Omaha, recording on the Saddle Creek label.
Forming in 2011 amidst the treacherous Nebraska winter, with the desire to create art and music, the band consists of singer Sarah Bohling, singer/multi-instrumentalists Derek Pressnall, and Nik Fackler. They released their debut album on Saddle Creek in 2012.
Icky Blossoms combines the genres of new wave, post punk, electronic, funk, dance and indie rock. Each song seems so familiar and yet so amazingly fresh, it’s hard to not become immediately addicted to this trio. Don’t be fooled by silly reviews that can’t get past calling them an electroclash revival band. Electroclash never had this much emotion.
Bohling’s voice has a detached and yet sexy coolness. The music has distinct influences of the chainsaw guitars of My Bloody Valentine, thumping synthesizer beats of New Order and the sexy rhythms of Prince. This is not a band who is simply recreating past sounds, they have carefully crafted their influences into a sound that is distinctly their own and decidedly modern.
Saddle Creek announced in March 2014 that Icky Blossoms were working on a new album. Strawberry Tongue is excited to see what the sophomore release of Icky Blossoms has to bring.
Strawberry Tongue Radio is happy to be featuring the songs Perfect Vision and Heat Lightning from their self-titled debut album.
